The Air Force Institute of Technology (AFIT) has achieved a remarkable milestone, topping 74 other universities in Nigeria with the highest national spread across 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory.
This was contained in a statement issued by the Director of Public Relations and Information, NAF, Air Vice Marshal Edward Gabkwet on Tuesday.
This feat underscores AFIT’s growing reputation and credibility as Nigeria’s premier aerospace institution, Enugu Reporters reports.
According to the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) weekly publication, AFIT has secured the number one position, solidifying its commitment to academic excellence, innovation, and national development.
The Chief of Air Staff (CAS), Air Marshal Hassan Abubakar, praised the institution’s achievement, noting that its rapid growth reflects its dedication to shaping Nigeria’s future.
“As AFIT continues to soar to new heights, it is poised to play an increasingly important role in Nigeria’s educational sector,” Air Marshal Abubakar said.
He urged the institution to strive towards becoming a world-class institution renowned for academic excellence, innovation, and research.
AFIT’s commitment to excellence and transparency has also earned it the second position in adherence to JAMB’s admission guidelines. The institution’s increasing popularity can be attributed to its technical teaching staff, well-equipped laboratories, zero-tolerance policy for strikes, affordable tuition, and motivated staff.
With a student strength of 7,584, including 537 military personnel, AFIT continues to play a vital role in shaping Nigeria’s future. Its unique strengths and specialized focus on aerospace engineering warrant its continued independence, making it a crucial contributor to Nigeria’s technological advancement and aerospace landscape.
In light of AFIT’s recent achievement, merging it with the Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA) would be retrogressive and counterproductive, considering its distinct strengths and specialized focus. Instead, AFIT should continue to thrive as a premier institution, driving innovation and excellence in Nigeria’s educational sector.
