In a heartwarming turn of events, the Kukawa community in Borno State is experiencing a resurgence of peace and unity as Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) joyfully return to their ancestral homes. This was disclosed by the Chief Military Public Information Officer, HQ MNJTF N’djamena -Chad Lieutenant Colonel Olaniyi Osoba during the weekend.
Lieutenant Colonel Osoba stated that the successful efforts of the Multi-National Joint Task Force (MNJTF) have paved the way for this long-awaited homecoming, marking a significant milestone in the region’s journey towards stability and development.
On Sunday, August 4, 2024, Honourable Karta Maina, representing Kukawa Constituency, alongside local leaders Chairman Alhaji Abba Fugu and District Head Alhaji Kachalla Mamman, officially flagged off the return of IDPs to Kukawa town. This symbolic event marks a new chapter of hope and resilience for the community.
The recent Operation LAKE SANITY II, led by MNJTF forces, has created a safer environment for the return of displaced residents.
He said the operation’s success has eliminated terrorists, recovered arms caches, and led to the surrender of several militants, instilling confidence and optimism among returning IDPs.
Kukawa, a vital part of the Borno Emirate, holds a special place in the hearts of its residents, who are now embracing the opportunity to rebuild their lives and communities. Neighbouring towns like Cross Kukawa and Baga are also witnessing positive changes, setting a promising precedent for the entire region, Enugu Reporters gathered.
As IDPs settle back into their homes, the spirit of resilience and unity shines brightly in Kukawa, a beacon of hope for other communities affected by conflict. The journey towards lasting peace and prosperity continues, fueled by the unwavering determination of the people and the support of dedicated leaders and security forces.
