In a stern warning, the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General Christopher Musa, declared that individuals displaying the Russian flag in Nigeria are committing a treasonous act. This statement came after an emergency security meeting with President Bola Tinubu at Aso Rock, amidst ongoing nationwide protests.
General Musa emphasized that the law will hold accountable those individuals who engage in such acts. He stated, “We will not accept anybody flying any foreign flag in Nigeria. That is a treasonable offence, and it will be viewed and treated as such.”
The Defence Chief also reaffirmed the commitment of security agencies to defend democracy and maintain peace and tranquillity in Nigeria. He warned against any attempts to disrupt the democratic process, stating, “We will not accept anyone pushing or taking any action to want to push for any change of government. Democracy is what we stand for, and democracy is what we will continue to defend.”
General Musa also noted that investigations are underway to identify and prosecute those sponsoring individuals to fly foreign flags in the country. He assured Nigerians that the security agencies are working together to ensure peace and tranquillity in the country.
