In a stunning blow to Boko Haram’s leadership, Awana Alhaji Mele Keremi, a high-ranking deputy commander, has surrendered to the Multi-National Joint Task Force (MNJTF) in Cross Kauwa, Lake Chad Region.
The Chief Military Information Officer Headquarters MNJTF N’djamena -Chad Lieutenant Colonel Olaniyi Osoba in a statement revealed that Keremi, the right-hand man to a notorious Boko Haram commander, confessed to his involvement in numerous terrorist operations, providing invaluable intelligence to the authorities.
In a related development, Babagoni Modu, a former Boko Haram member, and a family of eight escaped from a terrorist camp in Marte, citing disillusionment with the group’s violent activities.
The family recounted their harrowing experiences at the hands of the terrorists before their daring escape.
Meanwhile, MNJTF troops successfully detected and detonated multiple improvised explosive devices (IEDs) in Cross Kauwa, preventing potential harm to civilians and infrastructure. This highlights the troops’ vigilance and effectiveness in countering the threat posed by Boko Haram and ISWAP insurgents.
These developments underscore the MNJTF’s commitment to combat terrorism and safeguard the Lake Chad region.
The surrender of a high-ranking Boko Haram figure and the successful disposal of explosive devices represent significant victories in the ongoing campaign against terrorism.
