The 1 Division Garrison has emerged the overall winner of the Division’s Inter-Brigade Officers Combat Proficiency Competition 2024, held at the Nigerian Defence Academy Sports Complex, Ribadu Cantonment from August 20, 2024.
According to the Acting Deputy Director, Army Public Relations, 1 Division, Nigerian Army, Lieutenant Colonel Musa Yahaya on Thursday said the competition is aimed to sharpen the participants’ combat skills.


In his closing remarks, General Officer Commanding 1 Division and Commander Operation WHIRL PUNCH, Major General Mayirenso Saraso, highlighted the events significance, noting its alignment with the Chief of Army Staff’s vision of maintaining a well-trained and combat-ready force.


The competition tested combat efficiency, stamina, and endurance while fostering sportsmanship and camaraderie among officers. General Saraso congratulated the winners and encouraged others to strive for excellence.
Brigadier General David Nwakonobi, Chief of Staff 1 Division, commended participants for their exceptional performance and appreciated the GOC’s leadership and support.
The competition featured participants from 1 Division Garrison Kaduna, 3 Brigade Kano, and 31 Artillery Brigade Minna, competing in events such as weapon handling, combat swimming, and obstacle crossing.
1 Division Garrison emerged as the overall champion, with 31 Artillery Brigade Minna and 3 Brigade Kano securing second and third positions respectively.

The event concluded with the presentation of medals and awards, souvenirs to distinguished guests, and group photographs.
