In a bid to counter the growing influence of terrorist propaganda, the Defence Headquarters (DHQ) has come out to set the record straight on recent events. The move comes after a viral video, purportedly showing the killing of civilians in a mass grave, began circulating on social media.

According to a statement released by Major General Edward Buba, Director Defence Media Operations, the video was not shot in Nigeria, as claimed by the terrorists, but in a nearby African country grappling with its insurgency.

The military described the video as a desperate attempt by the terrorists to manipulate public opinion and undermine the government’s efforts to combat terrorism.

The DHQ also denied reports of 150 persons being abducted in Gobir, Sokoto State, stating that the claim was a deliberate misinformation campaign by the terrorists. The statement emphasized that the military remains committed to protecting civilians and defeating the terrorists.

In a related development, the military confirmed that two of its MRAPs (Mine-Resistant Ambush Protected vehicles) were destroyed during a recent operation in Zamfara State. The vehicles got stuck in swampy terrain, and troops were forced to demobilize to prevent capture by the terrorists.

The DHQ assured that the incident would not deter its operations, emphasizing that troops retain operational flexibility to make adjustments in achieving their strategic objectives.

The statement concluded by urging the public to be cautious of terrorists’ propaganda and misinformation, which are common tactics used to spread fear and confusion.

Enugu Reporters reports that by setting the record straight, the military aims to reassure the public of its commitment to transparency and accountability, while also exposing the terrorists’ desperate attempts to manipulate public opinion.

As the fight against terrorism continues, it is essential for the public to remain vigilant and discerning in the face of propaganda and misinformation.
