In a significant boost to the fight against crude oil theft, Major General Jamal Abdussalam, General Officer Commanding (GOC) 6 Division, Nigerian Army (NA), has announced substantial progress in ongoing operations in the Niger Delta Region (NDR).
Receiving Major General Jamil Sarham (retired), CEO of New Guard Security and Consultancy Services (NGSCS) Limited, at the Division’s Headquarters in Port Harcourt Barracks, Rivers State, Major General Abdussalam expressed optimism about the operations’ trajectory.
He noted that the operations are yielding results, and promised to sustain the trajectory.
The GOC highlighted the notable increase in terminal factors as evidence of success.
He emphasized the Government’s directive to boost daily production to 2 million barrels per day, a task the Division is committed to achieving through various operations.
He mentioned some key successes including Operation CHANNEL SWEEP, which handled over 20 million litres of stolen crude; Operation LINES SWEEP, which cleared Trans Niger Pipelines (TNP) critical areas and confiscated illegal products; and ongoing operations RIVER SHIELD and CRUDE HUNT, which destroyed illegal artisanal refineries, confiscated products, and made several arrests.
The GOC praised the cooperation of Private Security Companies (PSCs) and local communities, which have enhanced intelligence gathering and operations. He assured continued partnership with PSCs but warned against “bad eggs” hindering progress.
Earlier, Major General Sarham commended the GOC for the recent upsurge in oil production, attributing it to his commitment and efforts.
He commended the GOC for his infrastructural drive in the Division and urged him to sustain the momentum in the fight against illegal oil bunkering.
The visit included representatives from PINL, Project Management Office, and Tatita Security Services, Nigeria Limited, with souvenirs presented and group photographs taken.
