The General Officer Commanding (GOC) 6 Division, Nigerian Army (NA), Major General Jamal Abdussalam, has reaffirmed the Division’s commitment to fostering a strong partnership with the Department of State Services (DSS) in tackling the complex security challenges prevalent in the Niger Delta Region (NDR).
This assurance was given during a courtesy visit by the newly appointed State Director of Security (SDS), Rivers State Command, Mr Benedict Akinkumi, to the Headquarters of 6 Division in Port Harcourt Barracks on Friday.
Lieutenant Colonel Danjuma Jonah Danjuma, Acting Deputy Director 6 Div Army Public Relations disclosed this in a statement emphasised that the collaboration will boost their operational capabilities and effectiveness in the area.
Major General Abdussalam emphasized the imperative of inter-agency collaboration and information sharing in effectively addressing the nuanced security threats in the region.
He highlighted the Division’s existing collaborations with other security agencies, which have yielded successful operations and intensified efforts against illegal oil bunkering, crude oil theft, and other criminal activities.
The GOC assured the SDS that the Division would continue to take proactive measures to ensure the safety and security of the region, and would not relent in its efforts to combat criminality.
He expressed optimism that the new SDS would leverage his experience to enhance the partnership between the DSS and the NA.
Earlier, Mr. Akinkumi stated that his visit was aimed at seeking guidance and collaboration, acknowledging the complexity of the operating environment and the need for a unified approach among security agencies.
He emphasized the importance of inter-agency cooperation in achieving success and called for support in addressing identified flashpoints of criminal activity.
The visit underscores the commitment of both agencies to working together to ensure peace and security in the Niger Delta Region.
