Daily Assets nominate COAS ‘man of the year’ 2020

The publisher and Editor in Chief of the Daily Assets newspaper, Dr. Cletus Akwaya has nominated the Chief of Army Staff (COAS),Lt. Gen. Tukur Buratai as the ‘Man of the Year’ Award, 2020.

Dr. Akwaya made this known during a visit to the COAS in the Army headquarters in Abuja.

He said the choice of the award was in recognition of the monumental achievement recorded in the fight against terrorism and the infrastructural transformation across the country.

“We have observed the activities, the achievements and operations from the leadership of the current Chief of Army Staff. We are very happy with his achievements.

“We can’t account for all his achievements but what’s visible is the war against boko haram.”

“Everyone knows that the Army has been visible in fight against terrorism”. Akwaya explained.

He further said ,the event is an annual event that the organisation as part of nation building select individuals who have distinguished themselves professionally in the discharge of their duties hence the decision to nominate Buratai suitable as the recipient of ‘Daily Asset Man of the Year’.

“The selection has no feeling of influence of any kind. It is purely on facts.

“We have no contact to any senior person in the Army, it was based on reports from reporters in the field and the internal assessment of the editorial board”. He noted.

In his response, the Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Tukur Buratai expressed delight to the honour done to him.

“We are honoured with your choice of the Chief of Army Staff,” for the award”.

Represented by the Chief of Project and Programme, Nigerian Army Maj. Gen. Mohammed Aliyu, COAS advised journalist to report with facts and accuracy especially the operational activities of the NA.

“One thing the Chief of Army Staff is interested in is the accuracy of reportage.

“Theres nothing that requires hiding in the operation of Nigerian Army today.

“If there’s anything that needs clarification, fall back on us to tell you whatever is the truth.
“That’s the directive from the Chief of Army Staff to all of us.

“He’s not only fighting terrorism but seeking an end to all sort of insecurity in every part of Nigeria,” he informed.

He pledged the determination of the NA in ending not just the insurgency and counter insurgency in the north East but all other forms of criminalities across the country.

He therefore called for an improved media collaboration in bringing the lasting peace in the country.

The presentation of the award comes up on 21St February, 2020 with. Expected to be in attendance are senior government and political appointees, traditional rulers, business community amongst other very important dignitaries.
