In a remarkable display of military prowess and strategic intelligence, troops of the 6 Brigade Nigerian Army (NA), operating under the auspices of Sector 3 Operation WHIRL STROKE (OPWS), have achieved a significant milestone in their ongoing efforts to curb criminal activities in Taraba State.
Captain Olubodunde Oni, Acting Assistant Director 6 Brigade Army Public Relations made the disclosure during the weekend said troops recorded milestone defeat against Ambazonia Rebels and pipeline vandalism in recent operations against criminals in its Area of Responsibility.
Enugu Reporters reported that this latest development is a testament to the Nigerian Army’s unwavering commitment to safeguarding lives and property, as well as protecting critical national infrastructure.
According to the statement, on December 18, 2024, the troops, acting on credible human intelligence, successfully tracked and apprehended four suspected members of the notorious Ambazonia rebel group at a hotel in Takum.
The suspects, who are currently in detention undergoing further investigation, confessed to being part of the rebel group involved in arms proliferation in exchange for cocoa with their Nigerian collaborators.
The recovery of four mobile handsets from the suspects has provided valuable insights into their nefarious activities, and the Nigerian Army is leaving no stone unturned in its pursuit of justice.
In a separate operation, the troops, following actionable intelligence, intercepted a truck with registration number WKR 66 BB Taraba State, transporting 19 pieces of stolen pipelines belonging to the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation Limited (NNPCL) at Natilde community in Bantaji district of Wukari Local Government Area.
The collaborative efforts of the Nigerian Army with the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in Wukari Division led to the recovery of an additional 11 pipes, bringing the total to 30. The recovered items have been handed over to the NSCDC Wukari Division for further investigation and necessary action.
The Nigerian Army’s success in this operation is a clear indication of its resolve to tackle the menace of pipeline vandalism and other forms of criminality in the region.
The statement noted that the Army’s commitment to protecting critical national infrastructure is unwavering, and it will continue to work tirelessly to ensure the safety and security of lives and property in Taraba State and beyond.
