In a significant move to enhance the living standards of its personnel, the General Officer Commanding (GOC) 6 Division, Nigerian Army, Major General Jamal Abdussalam, has commissioned several projects at the 343 Artillery Regiment, Elele Barracks, Rivers State.
According to Lieutenant Colonel Danjuma Jonah Danjuma, 6 Division’s Acting Deputy Director Army Public Relations, the projects, which are designed to improve the welfare of troops and their families included a 200-meter road, a lawn tennis court, a squash hall, and an indoor sports and recreation centre.
During the commissioning ceremony, Major General Abdussalam emphasized the importance of prioritizing troops’ welfare, stating that the projects commissioned have a direct impact on the lives of personnel and their families.
He noted that the complete remodelling of the 30-room block has provided each room with its own facility, making it a dignifying experience for the occupants.
The GOC commended the Commanding Officer (CO) 343 Artillery Regiment, Lieutenant Colonel Edward Kaan, for embarking on meaningful projects that uplift the living standards of troops and their families.
He said the projects commissioned are in line with the Chief of Army Staff (COAS) Lieutenant General Olufemi Oluyede’s command philosophy, which aims to “Consolidate the Transformation of the Nigerian Army Towards Bequeathing a Well-Motivated and Combat-Ready Force that can Effectively Discharge its Constitutional Responsibilities within a Joint Environment.”
Major General Abdussalam urged Commanding Officers to key into the COAS’s “Soldiers first” initiative and use it as a driving force in all their endeavours.
He also encouraged them to make use of the limited resources at their disposal for the benefit of their troops.
Earlier ,the CO 343 AR, Lieutenant Colonel Edward Kaan thanked the GOC and other senior officers who graces the ceremony. He noted that prior to embarking on the comprehensive renovation of the 30-room block, the facility had fallen into a state of disrepair, prompting his decision to undertake a thorough overhaul in accordance with the Chief of Army Staff’s “Soldiers First” concept, with the ultimate goal of enhancing the living conditions of the troops.
Enugu Reporters noted that yhe GOC’s commitment to troops’ welfare is a testament to the Nigerian Army’s dedication to the well-being of its personnel. By investing in projects that improve the living standards of troops and their families, the Army is demonstrating its appreciation for the sacrifices made by its personnel.
