In a significant boost to the welfare and readiness of troops, Brigadier General Babatunde Omopariola, Commander of the 17 Brigade Nigerian Army (NA), has commissioned a range of cutting-edge projects at the Natsinata Cantonment in Katsina.
According to the Acting Assistant Director Army Public Relations 17 Brigade, Lieutenant Lawal Abubakar, the commissioning ceremony, which took place on Wednesday, 8 January 2025, marked a major milestone in the cantonment’s history.
According to him, the newly equipped Brigade dental centre and sports facilities are set to revolutionize the living and working conditions of troops and their families, aligning with the Chief of Army Staff’s ‘Soldiers First Initiative’.
Speaking during the ceremony ,Brigadier General Omopariola reaffirmed his commitment to enhancing the welfare of troops and their families.
He emphasized the importance of providing resources to ensure the dental centre’s effectiveness in delivering quality medical care, and highlighted the significance of the newly constructed sports facilities in promoting physical fitness and creating a conducive environment for troops and residents.
The newly commissioned projects include a five-a-side football pitch, lawn tennis court, volleyball court, squash court, badminton court, and Dental X-ray equipment.
These facilities are designed to promote a sense of community and camaraderie among troops, while also providing them with the resources they need to maintain their physical and mental well-being.
The development of these projects is a testament to the Nigerian Army’s commitment to improving personnel welfare and readiness, and is in line with the ‘Soldiers First Initiative’ launched by the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Olufemi Oluyede.
This initiative aims to foster a sense of community within the cantonment, while also providing troops with the resources and support they need to perform their duties effectively.
As the Nigerian Army continues to prioritize the welfare and readiness of its troops, it is clear that the Natsinata Cantonment is set to become a model for other military installations across the country, Enugu Reporters noted.
