In a significant move to boost Nigeria’s oil production, the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General Christopher Gwabin Musa, met with critical stakeholders in the oil and gas sector in Port Harcourt on February 4, 2025.
The Director Defence Information, Brigadier General Tukur Gusau said in a statement that the meeting aimed to address the challenges affecting optimized oil production in the country.
General Musa emphasized that oil production is crucial for socio-economic development, highlighting the recent significant strides made in ramping up production, with the current output exceeding 1.8 million barrels per day.
The Chief of Defence Staff called for collective efforts to achieve the presidential directive of producing over 2.2 million barrels per day. He urged stakeholders to be honest and objective in outlining the challenges and to ensure that their strategies are inclusive, comprehensive, and realistic.
The meeting was attended by top officials, including the Chief of Defence Intelligence, Chiefs of operations from various military branches, and representatives from key oil and gas companies, such as the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited and Nigeria Liquidity and Natural Gas.
The Defence Headquarters convened the forum to recognize the intricate dynamics at play and the importance of effective stakeholder engagement for the sustainability of oil and gas operations in the country. With the oil and gas sector being a critical component of Nigeria’s economy, the success of this initiative is eagerly anticipated.
