The Multinational Joint Task Force (MNJTF) has taken a significant step towards enhancing community infrastructure and supporting sustainable development with the commissioning of a state-of-the-art solar-powered borehole in the Fulatari Community of Monguno.
Lieutenant Colonel Olaniyi Osoba, Chief Military Information Officer, MNJTF Headquarters N’jamena, Chad disclosed this on Wednesday explained that the initiative underscores the Task Force’s commitment to improving the quality of life for local residents and promoting peace and stability in the region.
During the commissioning ceremony, Major General Godwin Mutkut, Force Commander of the MNJTF, emphasised the critical importance of access to clean water for life.
He expressed hope that the new facility would significantly improve the living conditions of the Fulatari community and urged the residents to manage the borehole responsibly.
Enugu Reporters gathered that the solar-powered borehole features a 10-cubic-meter tank capacity and is equipped with advanced water treatment and supply systems.
Speaking during the ceremony, the Commander MNJTF Sector 3, Major General Mohammed Babayo, opined that the commissioning of the solar-powered borehole is expected to facilitate the return and resettlement of Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs), contributing to the region’s recovery and development.
He underscored the project’s importance in the broader context of peace and stabilization efforts in Monguno and Borno State.
Mr Dennis Tavernier, representing DCI, highlighted the advanced features of the borehole, including solar panels, micro-filters, and an automatic chrome dispenser.
According to him, the project is a testament to the collaborative efforts of the MNJTF, Defence Council International (DCI), and the European Union to enhance the return of normalcy to the communities affected with terrorist activities.
The statement further added that this initiative aligns with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, aiming to ensure universal access to clean water, improve public health, and enhance overall living conditions.
The Local Government Chairman of Monguno, Alhaji Liman Kala, expressed heartfelt gratitude to the MNJTF for their unwavering dedication to the community’s welfare. The commissioning ceremony marked a significant milestone in the ongoing efforts to foster peace, stability, and development in the region.
