In a significant breakthrough, troops of Operation UDO KA, in collaboration with the Department of State Services (DSS) and 63 Brigade, have arrested two alleged logistics suppliers linked to the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and its militant wing, the Eastern Security Network (ESN).
Major General Markus Kangye, Director Defence Media Operations, in a statement on Tuesday, explained that the operation also resulted in the interception of a substantial cache of ammunition.
According to Major General Kangye, the suspects, Mr. Emeka Omenife and Mr. Uchenna Obiora, were apprehended on May 25 and 30, 2025, respectively. A truck bearing Lagos registration number EKY 642 YC was intercepted, containing 164,650 live cartridges concealed in four ingeniously constructed compartments.
“This is not the first instance of Mr. Omenife’s arrest in connection with IPOB/ESN logistics supply. His re-arrest signifies a resurgence in criminal activity following his release, underscoring the imperative for sustained and coordinated countermeasures against logistics networks that bolster proscribed organisations,” Major General Kangye stated.
He said preliminary investigations indicate that the ammunition was smuggled from Ghana, with Onitsha designated as the intended destination.
The security agencies are working to identify and apprehend additional collaborators implicated in the illicit arms smuggling network.
The statement further urged the public to share credible information to enhance operations.
