The Force Commander Joint Task Force Operation WHIRL STROKE (OPWS), Major General Moses Gara, has reassured crisis-hit communities in Benue State of the military’s commitment to restoring peace and security.
General Gara gave the assurance in Yelewata, during a recent operational visit to several affected areas on Saturday , 14 June 2025.
According to the statement released by Lieutenant Ahmad Zubairu , Acting Media Information Officer HQ JTF OPWS, said the Force Commander,during his visit, met with community leaders and stakeholders to discuss strategies for countering insurgent activities.


Describing recent attacks as “barbaric and unacceptable,” General Gara reaffirmed the military’s commitment to ensuring peace is fully restored in the region.
“Today, I stand not just as a Commander, but as a fellow Nigerian who understands your pain and suffering. The Nigerian security establishment is with you. We are not here to observe; we are here to act. We will pursue the perpetrators of these heinous crimes and ensure they face justice,” he stated.
General Gara announced that OPWS has intensified intelligence gathering and implemented robust operational strategies, including the deployment of additional troops to strategic locations.
He emphasised the critical role of community collaboration in achieving lasting peace and urged residents to support security agencies by volunteering credible and timely information.
Speaking on behalf of the community, Mr. Iorkyaa Emmanuel expressed confidence in the military’s ability to deal with the assailants and pledged the community’s unwavering support. He advocated for a sustained security presence in remote areas to deter future attacks.

Enugu Reporters reports that the military’s renewed commitment to peace and security in Benue State is a welcome development for the affected communities.
It noted that the success of these efforts will depend on the effective implementation of the strategies and the level of community engagement and support.
