The Nigerian Army (NA) has marked a significant milestone in its welfare agenda with the commissioning of a newly remodelled Nigerian Army Post Exchange (NAPEX) Supermarket at Ojo Cantonment, Lagos.
The commissioning ceremony took place on Thursday, 19 June 2025.
Lieutenant Colonel Musa Yahaya, the Acting Deputy Director Army Public Relations, 81 Division in a statement noted that the facility, renovated by the Nigerian Army Welfare Limited by Guarantee (NAWLG), was a testament to the Army’s commitment to improving the lives of its personnel and their families.
During the ceremony, the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Olufemi Oluyede, emphasised that the operationalization of NAPEX represents a critical stride in enhancing troops’ welfare and promoting sound administration.
He stated that the Nigerian Army was committed to prioritising initiatives that foster the well-being of its personnel, recognising the pivotal role they (personnel) play in the nation’s security architecture.
Earlier in his remarks, the General Manager of NAWLG, Major General Ibrahim Taiwo, highlighted the importance of welfare in effective troops management.
He said the remodelled NAPEX supermarket aligns seamlessly with the COAS’ Command Philosophy, poised to positively impact the lives of troops, their families, and the broader barracks community.
Delivering his vote o thanks, the Managing Director of NAPEX, Brigadier General JB Adams, expressed gratitude to the GMD NAWLG for his visionary initiative, which promises to boost troops’ morale and fighting spirit across the nation.
The commissioning of the NAPEX supermarket is a significant step towards enhancing the welfare of Nigerian Army personnel.
The event drew a distinguished gathering of senior military officers, including the Commander 9 Brigade, Executive Director of Operations NAWLG, and members of the Nigerian Army Officers Wives Association (NAOWA) and the Nigerian Army Soldiers Wives Association (NASWA).
