The Defence Headquarters (DHQ) Tuesday responded to a news article that misquoted Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General Christopher Gwabin Musa regarding the Yelwata incident.
In a statement, signed by the Director Defence Information, Brigadier General Tukur Gusau, the military said the article’s interpretation of the CDS’s comments was “misleading and taken out of context.”
According to the statement “we categorically state that the CDS’s comments were aimed at drawing attention to the complex realities and challenges faced in conflict zones.
“His comments were made in good faith, within the broader context of encouraging communities to be vigilant, cooperative with security agencies, and united against those who seek to destroy peace and order.”
The Defence Headquarters rejected claims that the CDS’s remarks were “reckless, insensitive or provocative,” saying such insinuations undermine the armed forces’ efforts in managing volatile security situations.
The DHQ emphasized its commitment to working with communities, civil society organisations, and government partners to ensure justice, peace, and accountability across Nigeria.
