The International Gathering for Peace and Human Rights has conferred on the lawmaker representing Imo north in the 8th senate of the National Assembly, Distinguished Senator Benjamin Uwajumogu, with the 2017 Global Grand Protector of Human Rights Award.
This award is in recognition of the Senator’s investments in the protection of the basic rights and freedoms of people and his efforts to improve the living conditions of less privileged persons in the society.
Uwajumogu was given the 2017 Global Grand Protector of Human Rights Award, in his National Assembly office in Abuja yesterday, after the leadership of the International Gathering for Peace and Human Rights paid him a courtesy visit.
Handing over the prestigious Award to Senator Uwajumogu, the global Chairperson of the International Gathering for Peace and Human Right, Bishop Chidiebere Ogbu, assisted by the Organizations secretary, Ambassador Bishop Michael Anthony Steele, said Senator Uwajumogu was being recognised for his great commitment and contribution to the protection of peoples freedoms and human rights.
The group further lauded Uwajumogu for vibrancy in the Senate and for ensuring that his constituents had access to basic amenities.
Uwajumogu was also applauded for speaking out when his detained constituent died in the custody of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, as well as, standing up for his constituents that were wrongfully disengaged from federal service.
Responding, he pledged his commitment to always defend and protect the human rights and freedoms of his constituents and to further investment in the development of infrastructure that will improve the living conditions of the people.
Uwajumogu dedicated the award to Okigwe zonal people who totally support his representation’s investments in the protection of Okigwe interest.
