The Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA) has appointed Professor Adam Okene Ahmed as the new acting Academy Provost (AP).
Maj. Abubakar Abdullahi, Academy Public Relations Officer in a statement made available to Enugu Reporters on Tuesday said, the appointment was announced following the termination of the tenure of former acting AP Professor Usman Ahmad Muhammed recently.
Until his appointment, Prof. Ahmed was the pioneer Director of Linkages & Collaboration in the NDA.
He’s the Chairman and Pro- Chancellor of the Kogi State University Anyigba and the Chair of Chairmen of Kogi State Tertiary Institution. His management skills and engagement capacity saw to the return of the State Tertiary Institutions after excruciating 6 months industrial disputes with the government in 2017.
Professor Ahmed was born on 28 December 1963. He attended Native Authority School Okene between 1969-1975 and proceeded to a Community Secondary School, Okehi in the year 1975-1980. Between 1981 and 1983 he attended Kwara State College of Technology and School of Basic Studies, Ilorin and later Bayero University, Kano between 1984 – 1987, where he bagged a Bachelor’s Degree (BA) in History, as the best graduating student.
He became a Professor in 2009 .
Prof Ahmed is a recipient of a string of Awards/Prizes/Fellowships, both at home and abroad. Some of these includes: Lecturer & Founder of Security History, Published Books & contributed in High Impact Local & International Journals that are cited in Scopus, ISI, Google. Similarly, he won Michael Crowther Prize for the Best Graduating Student in History, BUK 1987.
According Maj. Abdullahi, the new acting AP served in many positions including, a Member and State Coordinator, Presidential Campaign Council (Security & Intelligence); Member Presidential Research Team; Member, Global Team Centre for Promoting Ideas (CPI), USA, (2011), Fellow Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (FNIPR) (2018 ), Certificate Management Consultants (2017), Fellow, Institute of Management Consultants (2018 ).
He is an Expert in Social Science, Center for Science & Education, Canada (2010 ). Scholar of Middle Eastern Studies, Dr Tun Mahathir Mohamad’s Thought (IPDM), Association of Malaysian Professors & ISS (Universiti Utara Malaysia (2011). He served severally as Chairman NUC Accreditation Teams to many universities which included Ekiti State University, Ado Ekiti, and Federal University, Wukari among others.
Professor Ahmed was a member, Presidential Police Reform Committee (Wudil), Abuja 2009, Presidential Research Committee (2005- 2006). Benchmarking to UK Military Academies 2020 Scholar, Cabell, Ulrich, EBSCOhost, DOAJ, Index Copernicus, AMICUS, Canadiana. He has over 100 publications in forms of Books, Chapters in Books, Journal publication, Joint reports & projects, amongst others.
